Aug. 3: Free transit all day from Kingston Transit for Princess St. Promenade

July 31, 2019 -

Kingston Transit invites visitors and Kingstonians to ride public transit for free, city-wide, all day on Saturday, Aug. 3 in celebration of Princess St. Promenade.

"For seven years, we have offered free transit as part of the Princess St. Promenade events," says Jeremy DaCosta, director of transit and fleet services. "They are fantastic community events that celebrate active transportation and taking Kingston Transit to such an event is one way to make your trips downtown more active and environmentally-friendly. Plus, it's easy and stress free!"

Riders are encouraged to try one of the four most popular Park & Ride locations in the city:

  • The Kingston Gospel Temple, connects to Express 501/502 and Routes 4, 7 and 14;
  • Centre 70, connects to Express 501/502 and Routes 6 and 15;
  • Montreal Street at Highway 401, connects to the new Express 801/802; or
  • Innovation Drive at Highway 15, connects to Express 601/602.

All Park & Ride locations will provide service to the Downtown Transfer Point in fewer than 20 minutes.  Plan your bus trip with Google Transit: www.kingstontransit.ca/tripplanner

This DowntownKingston! event is designed to make Princess Street a pedestrian-friendly, vehicular-free festival zone, to promote the use of active transportation (walking, cycling or riding Kingston Transit) to get downtown. Kingston's main street will be closed 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. from Barrie to Ontario.

Retailers, restaurants and other Promenade participants offer activities throughout this day-long event.
