Bylaw officers to visit west-end homes offering information about garbage disposal

June 7, 2019 -

West-enders may be visited by City of Kingston bylaw officers – and perhaps a councillor or two – offering information about garbage-related bylaws the first two weeks of June. In partnership with the City's solid waste department, they'll also be offering blue or grey boxes to properties that do not have them.

"The main goal is to offer education about how and when to put out garbage and recycling. We may touch on other bylaws if we notice an issue. But, we want homeowners to understand that no one will be ticketed for violations during these friendly visits," says Lacricia Turner, manager, licensing & enforcement.  She notes that, while bylaw officers have regularly made such visits downtown and consistently patrol all regions of Kingston, it seemed time to get out to the west end with an information campaign.

The bylaw officers will also have information on how to report illegal dumping (psst: email details to bylawenforcement@cityofkingston.ca or call 613-549-4291, ext. 3135 during business hours).

Watch for them in your west-end neighbourhood:

  • Lakeside and west side of Portsmouth – June 4
  • Collins-Bayridge – June 8
  • Loyalist Cataraqui – June 7, 8 and 14
  • Trillium – June 11 and 13
  • Meadowbrook – June 11
  • Countryside – June 14 and 15
