Celebrate the opening of the urban K&P Trail on June 10
May 30, 2017 -
Come try a beautiful new way through Kingston at the opening of the urban K&P Trail on Saturday, June 10!
Celebrations start at 11 a.m. in Douglas Fluhrer Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a performance of the K&P Ballad by Roger James and a dedication of a park bench to Douglas Knapp – a long-time advocate for the K&P Trail.
"Generations of Kingstonians will enjoy this scenic route along the old Kingston & Pembroke rail line that unites the city's urban and rural areas – and its past with its future. We are proud to be opening the urban K&P Trail in Canada's sesquicentennial year," says Mayor Bryan Paterson.
The paved urban portion of the K&P Trail runs 6.4 km from Douglas Fluhrer Park through Kingston's Inner Harbour and Old Industrial area up to Binnington Court where it joins the gravel rural K&P Trail and winds another 15 km up to Orser Road. No motorized vehicles are permitted on the trail (except farm vehicles).
Walk the Trail on Opening Day
The first 200 people at the park can get a free hotdog and drink from the You Found Us HDC! Fill in a ballot for a chance to win a Wellness Pass offering full use of the facilities and drop-in fitness and aqua fit classes at both the INVISTA Centre and the Artillery Park Aquatic Centre.
Bring your water bottle! The Utilities Kingston Water Buggy will be available for fill-ups in the park.
