null City budget deliberations begin Monday

November 21, 2019 -

On Monday, Nov. 25, City of Kingston departments and City-funded external agencies and boards begin 2020 budget presentations to city Council.

Council will be presented with a tax-supported operating budget of $400 million, which incorporates a 1.5 per cent tax rate increase plus 1 per cent for capital infrastructure, as well as a 2020 capital budget of $167.5 million.

These budgets reflect Council's strategic priorities and fiscal direction that were established earlier this year as part of Council's strategic planning exercise.

The 2020 municipal budgets have been developed to maintain consistent service levels incorporating inflationary impacts, growth-related demands and additional support to Council's strategic capital priorities.

Council will hear presentations from City departments and agencies over three nights:

  • Nov. 25, 6 p.m. – External agency/board presentations
  • Nov. 26, 6 p.m. – Municipal budget overview and City department presentations followed by budget deliberations.
  • Nov. 27, 6 p.m. – Deliberations (if required)

Budget deliberations will be held in Council Chambers at City Hall, 216 Ontario St., and are open to the public. The City will be tweeting live from the budget meetings @KingstonMeeting and using #ygkbudget.
