City of Kingston presents: Rockin the Square with Hawksley Workman and special guest PS I Love You June 12
April 21, 2015 -
Celebrate First Capital Weekend with a free performance by Juno award-winner Hawksley Workman with special guest PS I Love You in Springer Market Square on Friday, June 12 at 8 p.m. The performance kicks off the third year of the Rockin the Square series of concerts – one of the City of Kingston and Downtown Kingston! initiatives to animate Springer Market Square for both visitors and residents. The City wishes to thank 98.9 THE DRIVE, its official presenting radio station, for this event.
Hawksley Workman's touring career has seen him play nearly a thousand shows in more than15 countries. He's headlined prestigious venues like Massey Hall in Toronto and The Olympia in Paris, and has opened for rock heroes Morrissey, David Bowie, and The Cure.
His most recent album, Old Cheetah, ends a five-year hiatus from solo recordings. Since Hawksley last released an album, he has been back behind the drums with Mounties, an indie rock supergroup that gained considerable traction on alternative radio and capped off an impressive debut album run with the Emerging Artist of the Year award at the 2014 SiriusXM Indies. He also developed a one-man cabaret theatre performance called The God That Comes, which continues to draw rave reviews, sold-out crowds and international attention.
Paul Saulnier and Benjamin Nelson have taken their band – PS I Love You – from Kingston's bars and basements to Canada's Polaris Prize Long List for both Meet Me at the Muster Station and Death Dreams. For Those Who Stay is PS I Love You's third album and was released in the summer of 2014 by Paper Bag Records. It was recorded at the Bathouse Recording Studio, the duo's first time in "a proper studio".
This performance kicks off the summer season which continues with the Skeleton Park Arts Festival, a non-profit annual summer solstice celebration from June 12 - 21. For more information on this festival please visit www.artskingston.ca/index.cfm/skeleton-park-arts-festival
