City offers Open House on Industrial Land Strategy Review
June 9, 2014 -
The City is holding an Open House to offer the public a look at its Industrial Land Strategy Review project – aimed at ensuring there is enough available industrial land to provide a good supply of jobs for Kingston's growing population.
"We will be looking at City-owned and privately-owned industrial lands to develop a long-term vision for the City. We welcome residents and businesses to participate in the project so that we can plan for Kingston to remain a vibrant, complete and competitive municipality," says Cherie Mills, Manager, Policy Planning.
This first Open House on the project is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18 at the INVISTA Centre, 1350 Gardiners Rd. Participants may view display materials and talk to staff and consultants, Watson & Associates Economists Ltd., ahead of a 6:30 p.m. presentation.
Kingston's population is projected to grow to 133,100 in 2026, and will require about 14,000 more jobs – that's 700 new jobs a year. This review will ensure that our policies are appropriate and that we protect employment uses and identify current and future economic trends shaping Kingston's economy.
