City prepares for significant accumulation of freezing rain
The Emergency Operation Group has convened to plan for the anticipated accumulation of freezing rain.
While all available snow resources are focused on keeping arterial roads and bus routes passable, streets and sidewalks remain slippery. People are encouraged to stay at home. However, if you are outside be aware of falling ice and tree branches. Do not approach downed power lines.
To report downed power lines or a power outage contact your service provider.
- If you are a Utilities Kingston customer experiencing a power outage you can call 613-546-1181 to hear the list of known outages, add your outage if it is not listed and report downed power lines. - If you are a Hydro One customer – as are most residents in the west and east ends of Kingston – you may call Hydro One's Storm Centre at 1-800-434-1235 for information. View the storm centre map or download Hydro One's free mobile application to view the status of any planned or emergency power outage and estimated service restoration time at www.hydroone.com
- If you are a Fortis customer, you may call the 24-hour emergency line at 613-382-2118 for information.
In case of flooding, consider moving valuables from basements.
Residents who have been without power and therefore without heat for an extended period of time can drop into the INVISTA Centre to warm up. The INVISTA Centre will remain open overnight tonight. Kingston Transit is offering free transit to and from the INVISTA Centre during their regularly schedule transit hours which runs tonight until 11:30 p.m. and returns on a Sunday schedule tomorrow beginning at 8 a.m. www.cityofkingston.ca/tripplanner.
