City seeks citizens to serve on committees
September 16, 2013 -
The City is seeking 28 committed Kingstonians to sit on 8 of its boards, commissions and committees that help conduct and advise on the work of the City.
"Serving on a committee is a chance for citizens to volunteer their unique skills and knowledge, and to help strengthen our shared sense of community," says Kevin Arjoon, Deputy City Clerk. He notes that the nominations process takes about two months to complete with Council making its decision on annual appointments in November.
On Monday, Sept. 30 the City will host a Volunteer Recruitment Information Sharing Event at 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall, City Hall, 216 Ontario St. Interested residents can find out more and apply to serve at: www.CityofKingston.ca/committees. The deadline for committee applications is Friday, Oct. 4 at 4:30 p.m.
At the Volunteer Recruitment event, the public will have an opportunity to meet elected officials and senior staff and to speak informally with Chairs and Vice Chairs. There will also be formal presentations about the Corporate Strategic Plan and volunteerism, as well as committee chair remarks. A question and answer period will follow the presentations.
Although registration is not required, please contact the City to let us know you are coming to help organizers plan the event. Contact: Diane Jackson, Records Clerk, at 613-546-4291, ext. 1375 or email@example.com by Friday, Sept. 27.
