City seeks volunteers for committees

Want to shape your community?  Volunteer for one of the City of Kingston committees listed below and now seeking new, interested and knowledgeable members.

Apply by Monday, July 31 at 4:30 p.m. online at www.CityofKingston.ca/committees or at the city clerk's department at City Hall, 216 Ontario St.

The City is seeking new members for the following committees:

  • Citizen committee to review council remuneration.  Members of this committee will research and make recommendations on compensation for the roles of Mayor and city councilors for the 2018-2022 term of council. Two community members are needed for this committee which will serve until its mandate is completed (December 2017). The meeting schedule has yet to be determined.
  • Arts advisory committee. This committee makes recommendations on arts policies and strategies that serve the needs of the arts community and, in turn, Kingston residents.  One public member is being sought to join this committee for a term ending on Nov. 30, 2018. Arts advisory committee meets in the morning on the second Thursday of every month.
  • Committee of adjustment. This committee may give consideration to minor variances from the provisions of the Zoning Bylaw, permit extensions, enlargements or variations of existing non-conforming uses and also give consent to landowners who wish to sell, convey or transfer "part" of their land. One public member is required for this committee for a term ending on Nov. 30, 2018. Committee of Adjustment meets on the fourth Monday of each month.
  • Rural advisory committee. This committee represents the interests of Kingston's rural residents. One public member is required for this committee for a term ending on Nov. 30, 2018. Rural advisory committee meets quarterly.

Newcomers with permanent resident status and who have lived in Kingston for at least a year are welcome to apply to volunteer on a committee. Applicants must also be 18 years or older and live in Kingston.
