null City to host final Your Stories, Our Histories open house

November 28, 2019 -

The final in-person opportunity for Kingston residents to contribute to the development of an updated cultural heritage strategy will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Rideau Heights Community Centre (85 MacCauley St.). Residents are encouraged to drop in until 8 p.m.

Staff from the City's Cultural Services department will be on hand to showcase and discuss the themes that have emerged out of the engagement so far and collect any final feedback from residents.

The Your Stories, Our Histories project has been ongoing since September 2018. The engagement initiative was designed to explore the diverse history and heritage that exists within Kingston and incorporate it into the City's updated cultural heritage strategy. The project included the recent "Sir John A. 360" consultation, which facilitated a public conversation specific to Sir John A. Macdonald, and how we can add to the stories that we tell about him within Kingston.

"Over the course of this project, staff have heard from hundreds of residents, either online through the City's Get Involved platform, or in person at one of the four workshops and more than 15 community events we either hosted or attended to give residents an opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas on how the City can tell more inclusive and diverse histories through its cultural spaces, programming and events," explains Jennifer Campbell, Manager, Cultural Heritage.

In addition to this final in-person engagement opportunity, residents can contribute to the project on Get Involved Kingston until 4 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13.

Staff will compile and review all feedback received throughout the project and report back to Council in March 2020 on what was heard and what the next steps are in developing the updated cultural heritage strategy.
