City to host Secondary Suite Information Session for rural residents
December 2, 2013 -
Do you live in the rural area of Kingston? Are you interested in constructing a secondary suite in your home?
"Developing affordable housing is one of the City's top six priorities outlined in its Corporate Strategic Plan. Whether you live in the urban area, or in the rural area of the City, we want interested individuals to be able to create legal secondary suites to add to Kingston's stock of rental housing," says Sheldon Laidman, Director of Housing. "This workshop will help those in the rural areas of the City understand the guidelines and process of completing this type of project."
This past September, a similar workshop was held for individuals interested in creating secondary suites in urban areas of the City. The City's Housing, Building, and Planning & Development Departments will discuss the process and the technical aspects of creating a legal secondary suite in the rural areas of Kingston. In addition, KFL&A Public Health, the Cataraqui Conservation Authority, and local septic system design expertise will be presenting on private septic and well water servicing. The City has a variety of online resources to assist homeowners interested in creating a secondary suite at www.CityofKingston.ca/housing
Interested rural homeowners are invited to a Secondary Suite Information Session at the Glenburnie Fire Hall, 1485 Unity Rd., on Monday, Dec. 16 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
