City wins Municipal Waste Association silver for education programming

The City of Kingston has won the 2019 Silver Promotion & Education Award from the Municipal Waste Association (MWA) for its elementary school education programming.

"We love getting out to schools to deliver this hands-on programming aimed at getting kids involved in practicing the 3Rs as early as possible. It is great to be recognized for our work by our colleagues in our industry," says Heather Roberts, director of solid waste.

The City's solid waste public education team in partnership is Sustainable Kingston regularly conduct class visits and recycling facility tours each year to grades JK – Grade 8. They show students the importance of the 3Rs, how to reduce their wastes, and the environmental impacts when waste is not properly sorted and diverted from landfill.

The MWA is a provincial incorporated not-for-profit organization dedicated to waste minimization and diversion.
