Clean-up Of Snowfall To Continue Through Weekend
December 28, 2012
As of this morning, the City has plowed all streets at least once in the wake of a winter storm that dumped 30 cm of snow on Kingston. Today, general clean-up begins and will continue throughout the weekend.
Residents are being asked to keep their vehicles off the street in compliance with winter parking bylaws aimed at making snow removal as efficient as possible.
"We will be in a full-blown snow removal mode starting at midnight tonight, starting downtown," says Judy Brick, Manager, Public Works. She says that all sidewalk equipment is now out, and most of the sidewalks on the main streets used by pedestrians have been plowed.
"The depth and volume of the snow is a real challenge. We have to use blowers, which are a bit slower, but effective," she says. The goal is to have all the sidewalks clear over the weekend, so she asks that residents keep cars and other items off the sidewalks to help crews get the job done safely and efficiently.
Parents are reminded to keep their children from playing in snow banks as they can be difficult for snow-removal equipment operators and other motorists to spot. For other winter and snow plow safety tips, see Winter Reminders.
