Close competition at 2018 Sheep Dog Trials Festival
August 13, 2018 -
With a score of 261, Grant the border collie, owned by Barbara Ray from Millboro, Va., was the top dog at the 31st annual Kingston Sheep Dog Trials held Aug. 10 to 12 at Grass Creek Park.
Sway, the border collie owned by Diane Deal from Greenleaf, Idaho, came in a close second – also with 261 points. As both dogs received the same number of points in the competition, the tie came down to each dog's total in their respective outruns, lifts and fetches. Ray and Grant had the least amount of points off in their gather and, therefore, won the tie.
Mary Minor and her border collie, Feist, from Dayton, Nev. came in third place with 257 points. For full results, go to www.KingstonSheepDogTrials.com.
The three-day event included side attractions like Kingston Police K-9 Unit demonstrations, horsemanship demonstrations by the Horseman's Way and the Rideau River Dock Dogs competition and demonstrations.
The Kingston Sheep Dog Trials Festival has been a Top 100 Festival and Events Ontario winner for eleven years running. Organizers wish to thank all attendees, trial participants, volunteers and sponsors for making this event such a success.
