Developed following a variety of public consultations last year, a draft the City of Kingston's Public Engagement Framework is available for review and input at www.CityofKingston.ca/GetInvolved until March 10.
An open house on the draft framework is set for 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8 at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour.
"The City wants the public to be involved in key efforts and offer input for the benefit of decision-makers. The Public Engagement Framework will define what kind of engagement tools we use and how we will use them so that Kingstonians can understand the thinking behind our engagement processes," says Lanie Hurdle, commissioner, community services.
The framework outlines:
- Realistic expectations for engagement
- Key principles to guide public engagement
- Roles and responsibilities for employees, residents, stakeholders and council
- An approach to planning public engagements
- Tools and techniques
The draft framework will also be the subject of deeper discussions at four focus groups scheduled from February 28 to March 3.
After the open house, the City will evaluate the feedback and compile a report to be shared with the public and presented to council this spring.
