Today Mayor Bryan Paterson announced Brock Dickinson as the external economic development expert retained to assist in the Kingston Economic Development Corporation (KEDCO) review process. Drawing from his vast experience and successes, Dickinson will bring valuable knowledge of best practices, strategies and approaches as Kingston reviews and sets forward on a new path for the future of economic development in our community.
"Bringing in an external expert is important to the KEDCO review process. The expert will support our efforts to advance economic development by providing critical knowledge of the latest ideas, innovations and research driving 21st century economic development and investment," says Mayor Bryan Paterson. "Mr. Dickinson has the hands-on expertise in a community similar to Kingston and an impressive record of economic development success. His insight, advice and skills will enhance the KEDCO review process and I am looking forward to working with him."
Dickinson is one of Canada's leading economic development thinkers with 20 years of hands-on experience including roles as the director of ICT & Advanced Manufacturing for the Toronto Region Research Alliance, director of Economic Development & Tourism Services for the City of St. Catharines, and executive director of the Western Valley Development Authority in rural Nova Scotia.
Currently the CEO of MDB Insight, Dickinson is the co-director of the University of Waterloo's Economic Development Program. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Economic Developers Association of Canada and the Economic Developers Council of Ontario. His economic development work has won more than 40 national and international awards and has helped to leverage more than a billion dollars in new investment and create of 5,000 new jobs.
