Enjoy more than 65 free activities all September long
August 26, 2014 -
Twenty-six local community organizations are offering more than 65 FREE activities in September as part of Kingston Gets Active Month - many of them hosted at City facilities.
"We had over 2,000 residents come out and try a new activity, sport, or hobby during the first Kingston Gets Active Month in April. It was a great way to remove financial barriers and allow individuals to get involved in something new, while encouraging physical activity," says Denita Arthurs, Assistant Supervisor, Recreation Programs (Community Development).
The City is one of many local participating organizations involved with Canadian Sports for Life Kingston which helps organize Kingston Gets Active Month. Canadian Sports for Life Kingston strives to increase opportunities for participation in play, physical activity and sport, as a foundation for lifelong participation.
During the month of September residents will be able to test out various opportunities across the City to see if they enjoy it, before committing financially. Activities being offered include: fencing, cheerleading, BMX Bike Racing, gymnastics, horseback riding, Martial Arts and many more. Free workshops and training will also be provided.
You may drop-in to most of the activities, but some require registration. The extremely full Kingston Gets Active Month calendar is available at www.CS4LKingston.com (download it directly at http://www.cs4lkingston.com/KGA%20Month%20Calendar.%20September%202014.%20All%20Free-.pdf).
