Flags to be Flown at Half-Mast for National Day of Honour

On Friday May 9, 2014, National Day of Honour, Canadian flags at all City of Kingston facilities will be flown at half-mast. National Day of Honour has been declared by Royal Proclamation in recognition of the end of Canada's military mission in Afghanistan and to honour those who served and fell in Afghanistan.
A national ceremony is scheduled on Parliament Hill to pay tribute to the fallen, the wounded and the families of those who served. Locally, the Kingston Garrison will be holding a parade at McNaughton Parade Square on Friday May 9 at 1:00 p.m. The parade will commemorate the mission and observe a moment of silence for the fallen.
Canadian flags will fly at half-mast at all City of Kingston facilities for the day on May 9. City facilities where flags will be at half-mast include; City Hall, Memorial Centre, INVISTA Centre, Centre 70, Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, Rideaucrest, Lions' Civic Gardens, Battery Park, MacLachlan Woodworking Museum, 1211 John Counter Boulevard, 701 Division Street, Kingston Police headquarters, and fire stations.
