Free Sustainable Kingston speaker series presents Bob Willard

October 21, 2014 -

Come hear a free talk by sustainability researcher and author, Bob Willard on Thursday, Oct. 30 at the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery Brigade Association (RCHA) Club, third floor (elevator available), 193 Ontario St.

The doors open at 6 p.m. for local networking and the presentation begins at 7 p.m. Meals can be purchased from surrounding restaurants and brought in.

The latest presenter in Sustainable Kingston's free speaker series, Willard will be speaking on recent drivers of the sustainability imperative in the business community; why the business case for sustainability is much more compelling than it used to be; and his most recent work on defining a performance benchmark for companies that are fit for the future.

"Bringing in a renowned sustainability expert like Bob Willard, offers our community a unique opportunity that will empower us all to meet the challenges of sustainable living, making it well within our grasp," says Jennifer Kiwala of Sustainable Kingston.

Willard has given hundreds of keynote presentations to corporate, government, university, and NGO audiences. He applies his business and leadership experience from his 34-year career at IBM Canada to engage the business community in proactively avoiding risks and capturing opportunities by using smart environmental, social and governance strategies.

He has authored four books: The Sustainability Advantage (2002), The Next Sustainability Wave (2005), The Sustainability Champion's Guidebook (2009), and The New Sustainability Advantage (2012).

"The City is in the midst of developing its own corporate climate action plan and, with the renewal of the community sustainability plan coming in the new year, we are pleased to partner with Sustainable Kingston to bring such an experienced champion of sustainability in the business sector into that conversation," says Daniel Shipp, Sustainable Initiatives Coordinator for the City.

The event is free, but organizers request participants RSVP to info@sustainablekingston.ca or 613-544-2075, ext. 2.

Presenting Partners: Sustainable Kingston, City of Kingston, SWITCH Ontario, Hearthmaker's Energy Cooperative, KEDCO and the Greater Kingston Chamber of Commerce.
