Friday Traffic Report - Sept. 20 to 27

Motorists, cyclists and pedestrians: review the listing of streets and related messages below for travel information of interest to you.

Traffic and pedestrian impacts this week:

Closures

  • Brewers Mill Road – Highway 15 to Haggerty's Side Road – closed 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 23 for culvert replacement. Local access will be maintained. Detour on Pine Grove Road. [Please note that this work was completed on Sept. 23 so the road will be open on Sept. 24.]
  • Clarence Street – Ontario to Lake Ontario – closed 6:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 26 to accommodate a crane lift of boilers to the roof of 185 Ontario St.
  • Concession Street – Grey and Fergus –  Westbound lane will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sept. 26 Follow the detour via Grey, First and Fergus to return to Concession. Utilities Kingston is installing gas service.*
  • Coronation Boulevard – Taylor Kidd to Amherst – closed 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sept. 25.
  • Frontenac Street – Jenkins to Princess – closed until Dec. 2 for construction of an apartment building at 501 Frontenac St.
  • Hillview Road -- Old Hillview to Lincoln -- closed 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 3 and 4 to allow for a tree removal.*
  • Patrick Street – Russell to Joseph – closed 12 to 6 p.m. Sept. 21 for the Rustle Free Methodist Church Community BBQ.
  • Point St. Mark Drive – at Gore – The entrance/exit onto Point St. Mark Drive is closed until the end of the Third Crossing construction. Pedestrian access to the library and dog park remains open as does the sidewalk on the southeast side of Gore Road.
  • University Avenue -- Princess to Garrett -- closed 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 8 and 9 to allow for water and sewer work.*
  • Victoria Street Princess to Concession – closed 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2.* Also, expect minor delays, lane restrictions and road closures (see below) throughout the fall while contractors for Utilities Kingston work to replace sewers and water mains in the area. Drivers should also expect lane restrictions at the Princess/Victoria intersection.
    • Victoria Street – Princess to South Bartlett – closed Sept. 23 until mid-November.
    • Victoria Street – Durham to Princess – closed Sept. 25 to 27.
  • Wellington Street – Willam to Johnson – closed 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 25 to accommodate water construction by Utilities Kingston.*
  • Yonge Street – King to Gange – closed 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 25* for grinding and reinstating asphalt.

Delays

  • Bath Road (Westbound lanes) – from 275 metres east of Gardiners to just past Days – expect minor delays and lane restrictions while accessing businesses on the north side of Bath Road while Utilities Kingston crews reline a water main throughout the summer.  Expect lane restrictions at the Bath Road and Days Road intersection. 
  • Bath Road Westbound at Days Road – Right lane closed while crews are working in the area.
  • Days Road Northbound at Bath Road – Left lane onto Bath Road westbound reduced to one lane while crews are working in the area.
  • Casterton Avenue – Holland to Norman Rogers – expect delays through Sept. 27 to allow for milling and paving.
  • Cataraqui Business Park – Fortune, Resource and Centennial North – expect delays in this area until late September as crews reinforce the natural gas network to support the expansion of this business park.
  • Gibson and Oakridge avenues expect delays while Utilities Kingston replaces a water main in the area.
  • Highway 401 – at Highway 38/Gardiners Road – expect lane closures on the 401 until November 2020 and delays of up to 10 minutes nightly from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. on the westbound 401. A new carpool lot will open here Nov. 30, 2019. Ontario highway updates are offered by the Ministry of Transportation.
  • Highway 15 – Highway 401 to 500m north of Burnt Hills – expect daily lane closures weekdays through November for culvert replacement and rehabilitation.
  • Jackson Mills Road – Bur Brook Road to 400m south (near the K&P Trail) – reduced to one lane for roadside safety improvements. Both directions remain open.
  • John Counter Boulevard – Princess to Indian – expect increased delays until the summer of 2021 while crews construct a new four-lane road and rail overpass. MOTORISTS: Don't get stopped on the tracks! Ensure there is enough space on the opposite side before crossing.
  • Johnson Street – Oakridge to Gibson – expect disruptions Sept. 25 to 27 while a contractor for Utilities Kingston works on a restoration project related to the Oakridge/Gibson water main project.
  • Johnson Street Sydenham to Bagot – expect minor delays and lane restrictions while Utilities Kingston crews prepare to reline the local water main. Johnson Street will be reduced to a single lane when crews are working in the area.
  • Old Mill Road – expect delays until mid-October to allow crews to adjust the road elevation to match the new section of John Counter Boulevard.
  • Princess Street – Taylor Kidd to Bayridge – crack-sealing will continue 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. until Sept. 27.
  • Stanely Street – Landsdowne to Division – expect delays as Utilities Kingston installs a water main.
  • Strathcona Park water main relining – expect minor traffic delays on the following streets while Utilities Kingston crews prepare to reline water mains through the summer:
    • Elizabeth Avenue – from Jane to Avenue Road
    • Jane Avenue – from Kings Gate /Nottingham to Avenue Road
    • McMahon  Avenue  – from McMichael to Avenue Road
  • Sydenham Road – north of 401 – expect minor traffic delays for water main relining through the summer.
    • Mildred Street – from Sunnyside to Sydenham Road
    • Audrey Street – from Floyd to Jesse
    • Jesse Crescent – from Mildred to the end
    • Floyd Avenue – from Mildred to Sunnyside
  • Westdale Avenue – expect delays until late October while crews pave the road.

Sidewalks and pedestrian pathways

  • Bath Road – North Sidewalk - Expect localized sidewalk closures on from approximately 275 meters east of Gardiners Road to just past Days Road.
  • Jim Beattie Park – crews are continuing work to construct a new section of sidewalk and installing a catch basin until Sept. 27.
  • Lochinvar – Inverness East to Inverness West – crews will be removing and replacing sidewalks through Sept. 27.
  • Stephen Street – Cowdy to Patrick – crews will continue to reconstruct a sidewalk through Sept. 27.
  • Strathcona Park water main project – Utilities Kingston crews are relining water mains and installing new water mains to improve the water distribution system in this area through the summer:
  • Expect localized sidewalk closures on these streets:
  • Elizabeth Avenue – from Jane to Avenue Road
  • Jane Avenue – from Kings Gate/Nottingham to Avenue Road
  • McMahon  Avenue – from McMichael to Avenue Road
  • Expect the pedestrian access pathways to be closed in these locations:
  • Gretna Green to Indian Road
  • Stormont Avenue to Westmoreland Road, through O'Connor Park
