null Grade 7 Student Kicks Off 2013 PRO Kids Soccer Equipment Program

March 27, 2013 -

Loughborough Public School student Zach Lollar has collected 17 pairs of soccer cleats and 6 pairs of shin guards for the Kicks 4 Kids program.

Kicks 4 Kids is a program of the City-run PROkids charity, which links Kingston children and youth aged 0-18 lacking sufficient financial resources with partnering sport, culture, arts and recreation organizations.  PROkids helps with program registration fees, assists with the child's equipment and transportation costs as needed, and raises money to ensure all qualified children and youth receive financial support.  The annual Kicks 4 Kids program collects gently-used cleats and shin guards and pairs them with those who need them.

Zach Lollar, a student in the Challenge Program at Loughborough Public School, participated in the "Challenge for Change" project.  Zach's goal was to collect soccer equipment and to make students aware of the need to reuse sport equipment and be active.

"Zach indicated that most of the donations came from his classmates, and I'm pleased with his effort to involve youth in our program" says Denita Dyck, Assistant Supervisor, Recreation Programs. "With over 3000 children and youth playing soccer this summer in Kingston, we need hundreds more cleats to meet the demand.  By providing free quality used equipment, Kicks 4 Kids encourages sustainability and makes participation in soccer more accessible."
