Early Subscribers Entered To Win A Shaw Festival Getaway

After finishing up a banner 5th season a few weeks ago, the Grand Theatre launches its 2013-14 season today, and continues to bring the best artists from across the globe to the heart of downtown Kingston. Some highlights from the upcoming Grand Theatre Presents series include:

  • New Songwriter Series featuring Ron Sexsmith, Jill Barber, Whitehorse and Blackie & The Rodeo Kings
  • Rosanne Cash, The Manthattan Transfer and Jim Belushi making their Grand Theatre debuts
  • Ballet Jorgen's Canadian Nutcracker, featuring professional dancers with community participation
  • The return of Leahy, Blind Boys of Alabama, RUBBERBANDance, Black Violin, and Jesse Cook

Subscriptions for the new season go on sale through the Grand Box Office at noon today (Thursday, May 30). The annual season brochure has been sent to subscribers and is now available at the Grand Theatre, 218 Princess St.  Season series and performance details are also available online at

This season will again offer subscription packages for a variety of series, featuring theatre, comedy, classical music, entertainer, kids, world music, R&B, dance, Broadway and special event performances.

Ticket Pricing Offers Options

Half-priced tickets for patrons ages 30 and under for many of our shows as part of our Impact program will continue to be made available for this year. "Our Impact program was really successful last year, and many youth were happy to be able to afford to see a live performance," says Cultural Director Brian McCurdy. "We hope that this will inspire not only students, but also teens and young adults who are curious about the arts but are looking for a reasonable ticket price."

Many of the 13-14 season performances will feature three different prices in order to make tickets more accessible to a wider audience. "All of our performances feature the top artists in the world, but not all of them are a household name in Kingston," says Artistic Administrator Jayson Duggan. "We hope that audience members who are curious about a show or particular artist, or might want to bring their children or friend, will be able to purchase a less expensive ticket to try something new." Again, this year, the Canadian Tire KidStage series will feature free pre-show activities in the Whig walk before every matinee and half-priced tickets for children.

Another way that many residents take advantage of the flexibility and savings is to become a Pick 4 or More subscriber. It's easy! Just pick 4 different shows that you would like to attend throughout the whole season and save up to 15% off the regular ticket price. You can exchange your tickets for any other Grand Theatre Presents show throughout the season with ease and get the first pick of the best seats in the house. Renewing and new subscribers who purchase a subscription by July 13 will have the chance to win a trip to the Shaw Festival in beautiful Niagara-on-the-Lake. The prize includes 2 tickets to Guys and Dolls, 2 nights accommodation and $100 spending money.
