Hourly parking rates to increase

January 9, 2019 –

Hourly rates for parking on the street and in municipal lots in Williamsville and downtown will increase starting Jan. 14. They will go up to $2 an hour in high-demand, on-street zones and $1.50 an hour for surface lots and lower demand on-street zones. Accessible parking rates in these areas will increase to $1.50 an hour.

"We continue to implement the rate changes identified in the 2016 Parking Rate Review. The public parking system is required to be self-sustaining and this increase helps ensure that," says Marissa Mascaro, manager, parking services.  She notes that those who park around Queen's University and Kingston General Hospital – where parking is in very high demand – will not be affected as these rates increased in 2017.

Work to update the 100+ Pay & Display machines and 400+ single-space meters in these areas will begin on Jan. 14 and take about two weeks to complete, depending on the weather.
