INVISTA Centre to close during maintenance and facility updates
June 11, 2018 -
A number of closures will be taking place at the INVISTA Centre over the coming weeks, including at CaraCo Home Field.
INVISTA Centre Maintenance Closure
The INVISTA Centre will be closed from Monday, June 18 to Sunday, June 24 for maintenance and updates. During the shutdown, the entire facility will be closed including the fitness centre, rinks, meeting rooms and reception desk. Rinks will remain closed until July 8 for extended maintenance prior to the summer season.
The facility will be undergoing some exciting changes during the closure. LED standard lights will be retrofitted in each ice arenas to reduce energy consumption and help improve the quality of the indoor environment. This initiative is directly aligned with the City of Kingston's Climate Action Plan which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 352,500 tonnes by 2020 (from base year 2011 projections).
CaraCo Home Field Maintenance Closure
The CaraCo Home Field will also see a closure from Monday, June 25 to Friday, July 13.
"After several years of use, athletes began to notify staff that the track material would soften and material would sometimes be found stuck in running cleats," says Adam McCluskey, manager, recreation facilities. "After reviewing the track condition, it was determined that certain sections of the track were deteriorating and a decision to resurface the track under warranty was made."
The process will take up to 15 days and, once complete, a freshly resurfaced track with repainted lines will be available to the public. The facility will retain its IAAF Class 2 certification.
Fitness memberships will be honoured at Artillery Park Aquatic Centre at 382 Bagot St. during the shutdown. Alternative program schedules can be found on the City's website at www.CityofKingston.ca/Facilities.
