null Join the conversation: City hosts community conversation on growth and intensification
January 3, 2018 -
Come learn and offer your thoughts on growth and intensification in Kingston. Residents are invited to attend a special town hall meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 17 to explore the role of intensification as Kingston continues to experience growth.
The town hall will begin at 6 p.m. in Memorial Hall, City Hall and is intended to provide council and members of the public the opportunity to learn from Brent Toderian, former chief planner for the City of Vancouver and award-winning city planning consultant, on the challenges and opportunities of building higher density communities. Toderian, a nationally recognized thought leader, will offer a presentation to lead off the discussion on growth and intensification.
"We look forward to welcoming Mr. Toderian to share his expertise and experience in city planning and the role of intensification. This is not just an education session but an opportunity for community conversation about the future of our growing city and I hope Kingston residents will join us for this important conversation," says Lanie Hurdle, commissioner of community services.
Brent Toderian, of TODERIAN UrbanWORKS, is a renowned practitioner in advanced urbanism, city planning and urban design. He consults for cities and forward-thinking developers across Canada and the globe. Brent was also manager of Centre City Planning + Design, and chief subdivision and neighbourhood planner, in Calgary, Alberta, and an award-winning planning and design consultant for nine years at the beginning of his career in Ontario, with projects ranging from Toronto to Yellowknife. Brent is the founding and current president of the Council for Canadian Urbanism, Canada's only regular radio columnist on "City-Making" with CBC Radio, a writer for the Huffington Post and many other publications, and a highly sought-after international collaborator, speaker and teacher on advanced urbanism.
