Kingston Climate Action Plan seeks input
January 28, 2014 -
How can Kingston get ready to face the coming challenges of climate change?
The City and Sustainable Kingston invite residents to Community Collaboration sessions to build the Kingston Climate Action Plan (KCAP) – the Plan to guide community efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to climate change.
On Thursday, Feb. 6, plan to contribute to one of these KCAP Community Collaborations:
- 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Wilson Room, Kingston Frontenac Public Library, 130 Johnson St.
- 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. – Rona Room, INVISTA Centre, 1350 Gardiners Rd.
Interested residents are asked to help organizers by indicating which of these sessions they plan to attend in an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling 613-546-4291, ext. 1272. All are welcome on the day.
Residents may also offer their input online at www.CityofKingston.ca/climateactionplan until February 21. The input will be factored into the Plan due out on Earth Day, April 22.
"Climate change is here and we all have to adapt to it. The Kingston Climate Action Plan is everyone's plan. Through this plan, the community will work together to effectively face the challenges of climate change," says John Johnson, Executive Director of Sustainable Kingston, the community-driven organization with the mandate to make Kingston Canada's most sustainable city.
"Climate change is threatening our health, our quality of life and our children's future. The City of Kingston has been integrating climate change actions into operations and community planning. I'm excited by an opportunity to come together on this issue and, through the Kingston Climate Change Action Plan, demonstrate our community's leadership," says Daniel Shipp, the City's Sustainable Initiatives Coordinator.
Johnson notes that KCAP is to be integrated with the local Sustainability CoLab effort that Kingston has been chosen to pilot this year. The non-profit Sustainability CoLab is a growing provincial network that enables community-driven and action-oriented approaches to help business and industry reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
