Kingston Fire and Rescue monitors remaining residence operated by Fairfield Manor

September 4, 2018 -

At noon on Monday, Kingston Fire and Rescue posted a ‘notice to vacate' at Fairfield Manor West and is now working with the South East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) to monitor Fairfield's east facility.

"We continue to coordinate efforts with the LHIN to ensure the safety and security of residents at Fairfield Manor," says deputy chief Kevin Donaldson. The LHIN was successful in relocating all the residents at the west location.

Officials with the LHIN have confirmed that visits by contracted providers will continue as normal at Fairfield's east facility. "We've been made aware of the staffing shortages and home and community care staff members are assessing the needs of residents on a daily basis, as we look to ensure appropriate care is in place," says Cynthia Martineau, acting CEO of the South East LHIN.

Fire inspectors continue to work with the owner to ensure compliance with legislative requirements with respect to fire-safety for residents who are vulnerable occupants under the Ontario Fire Code.

The retirement residence is privately owned. Care is regulated by the Province.
