Kingston musicians: call for submissions to be featured in the YGK Music Pilot Project
March 19, 2019 –
The City of Kingston, in partnership with Kingston Accommodation Partners (KAP), has launched YGK Music, a new local music pilot project, and is seeking submissions from local musicians, groups and organizations to have their music featured on a playlist. The purpose of this pilot project is to showcase and promote local talent through curated playlists to be made available for listening on the City of Kingston website the Visit Kingston music website, and in various City properties.
"YGK Music is all about celebrating, encouraging and promoting local artists, with a particular focus on emerging talent," says Danika Lochhead, manager, arts and sector development. "Kingston has always been known as a music city and this pilot project will proudly feature different kinds of music to be made accessible to residents and visitors alike in a new way."
The inaugural YGK Music playlists will highlight two streams:
- Traditional – including classical, jazz, blues, folk and world music
- Contemporary – including rock, pop, dance, electronic, hip-hop and indie music
Submissions will be evaluated by a peer assessment committee consisting of members with music expertise in Kingston. Each artist selected to be featured on the playlist will be required to sign a Licensing Agreement with the City of Kingston and will receive an honourarium of $100.00, which allows for the use of the full clip of the artist's song for up to 12 months.
The deadline to apply is Friday, April 26, 2019 by 11:59 PM EST.
Call for submissions, evaluation criteria and application form can be found at CityofKingston.ca/YGKMusic.
