Kingston’s own The Glorious Sons to open for 54-40 Rock in the Square show

July 25, 2013 -

Legendary Canadian rockers 54-40 will perform as part of the Grand Theatre Presents Rock in the Square Series on Friday, August 2nd at 8pm. Celebrating the start of a summer long weekend, Canadian rock legends 54-40 will perform live. With more than thirty years of performing across the world, the band will perform hits like "Ocean Pearl", "Baby Ran", "I Go Blind" and a mix of tunes from their extensive repertoire.

Opening this performance will be The Glorious Sons, a Kingston-based band. The band formed eighteen months ago and beat out hundreds of bands across Ontario to win Rocksearch and a prize package worth over $15,000. But the chance to open for Finger Eleven, The Trews, The Poor Young Things and Gloryhound at the Biggs and Barr BBQ , not to mention that their single was to be played in regular rotation, proved to outweigh the money.  They played a strong show in front of thousands of fans . Two days later, their single ‘Mama' boomed to #1 in its first week.

The future for the band is bright. Their first EP will be released in September and they are beginning to gain fan support across Canada and will be touring the east coast come the fall. The band currently resides in Kingston and continues to jam atop the mechanic shop where they began.

The Grand Theatre Presents The Glorious Sons and 54-40 live in Springer Market Square on Friday, August 2 at 8pm and is supported by media partner FM 96. Admission is free and open to all ages. The Utilities Kingston Quench Buggy will be open for free water, so the community is encouraged to bring refillable water bottles.
