Kingston Transit offers all-day free transit and an escape bus for Princess St. Promenade

July 31, 2018 -

Kingston Transit is again offering free transit city-wide, all day on Princess St. Promenade Day on Saturday, Aug. 4 – and a free Kingston Transit escape room/bus at the Princess St. Promenade!

"For six years, we have offered free transit as part of the Princess St. Promenade events," says Jeremy DaCosta, director of transit and fleet services. "They are fantastic community events that celebrate active transportation and taking Kingston Transit to such an event is one way to make your trips downtown more active and environmentally-friendly. Plus, it's easy and stress free!"

Escape the Magic Transit Bus!

Kingston Transit and Improbable Escapes will partner to create a free escape room on a stationary transit bus at Princess and Bagot streets at the Promenade on Aug. 4.

"This is, as far as we know, the first time an escape room will ever take place on a transit bus," says DaCosta.  "This innovative, family-friendly experience, named the Magic Transit Bus, aims to make the bus into game while also educating the community about our transit system."

Based on previous one-day events hosted by Improbable Escapes, organizers anticipate a large number of escape room players will visit the event for this one-of-a-kind experience.

Park & Ride Free to get to the Promenade

Riders are encouraged to try one of the four most popular Park & Ride locations in the city:

  • Kingston Gospel Temple, connects to Express 501/502 and Routes 4, 7 and 14;
  • Centre 70, connects to Express 501/502 and Routes 6 and 15;
  • Montreal St. at Highway 401, connects to the new Express 801/802; or
  • Innovation Dr. at Highway 15, connects to Express 601/602.

All Park & Ride locations will provide service to the Downtown Transfer Point in fewer than 20 minutes. Plan your bus trip with Google Transit: KingstonTransit.ca/tripplanner.

DowntownKingston's!  Princess Street Promenade event is designed to make Princess Street a pedestrian-friendly, vehicular-free festival zone, to promote the use of active transportation (walking, cycling or riding Kingston Transit) to get downtown. Kingston's main street will be closed 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Barrie to Ontario Streets.

Retailers, restaurants and other Promenade participants offer activities throughout this day-long event.
