null Kingston Transit offers free transit this Saturday
November 12, 2019 -
Kingston Transit and Downtown Kingston! Business Improvement Area will offer free transit this Saturday, Nov. 16 in celebration of the 16th annual Nighttime Santa Parade. Kingstonians are invited to ride any Kingston Transit bus on any route (local and Express) for free all day long!
In addition to the free rides, Kingston Transit will add buses to their standard Saturday schedule to offer 15-minute service on all Express Routes from 3 – 5:30 p.m. with extra buses added to provide frequent service after the parade.
The pre-parade special event Express schedule is available at www.kingstontransit.ca/tripplanner or when using real-time transit apps such as Google Maps, Transit or Moovit. Kingston Transit staff will also be available online during the parade to assist with transit-related questions via Kingston Transit's Facebook (@KingstonTransit) and Twitter (@KingstonTransit) accounts.
"The extra service we're offering this Saturday is the perfect excuse for people to use one of our Park & Ride locations. Riders can drive their vehicles to a Park & Ride, hop on a bus and we can take them right downtown to all the action," says Jeremy DaCosta, Director, Transit Services. "Express 501/502 passengers have a new Park & Ride option available this year with the Jim Beattie Park & Ride lot on Henderson Boulevard. Passengers will be able to enjoy an easy 20-minute commute straight downtown."
Kingston Transit offers free parking at six Park & Ride locations throughout the city: Jim Beattie Park on Henderson Boulevard, Centre 70 at Front and Days roads, the INVISTA Centre at 1350 Gardiners Rd., Kingston Gospel Temple at 2295 Princess St., Montreal Street at Highway 401 and Innovation Drive east of Highway 15. Bus stops are within a short walking distance of each of these locations.
Downtown Kingston!'s annual Nighttime Santa Claus Parade starts at 5 p.m. and runs along Princess Street from Bath Road to Ontario Street. The Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at Springer Market Square following the parade.
