Lake Ontario Park wins design award
March 16, 2015 -
The work to revitalize Lake Ontario Park has been awarded a regional citation by the Canadian Society of Landscape Architects (CSLA), which has announced its 2015 Awards of Excellence winners. The awards recognize the best in Canadian landscape architecture and the projects that define the places we live, work and play. The Scott Wentworth Landscape Group Ltd. was the landscape architecture firm that led the project to upgrade the park. Len Corcoran Excavating Ltd. completed the construction.
"We're very proud that the project has received this kind of award and is being recognized by the CSLA. We hear the improvements to Lake Ontario Park are winning the hearts of Kingston residents and have seen a remarkable increase in the number of people coming to this great waterfront area," says Neal Unsworth, manager, parks development.
Completed in 2013, upgrades to the park included a splash pad, improved playground, new sand play areas, boat launch, an enlarged cobble beach, beach volleyball court and accessible walkways.
Planning for further waterfront improvements in the City is underway with the Waterfront Master Plan. The next public session is at 7 p.m. on March 23 at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, 53 Yonge St., and will consider the waterfront from Lake Ontario Park to Simcoe Street.
