Learn about City’s Home Ownership Program

February 5, 2014 -

Learn how to become a home-owner and about the City's Home Ownership Program at an upcoming Information Session hosted by the City and the Canadian Mortgage & Housing Corporation (CMHC).

"This is another affordable housing initiative. Down payment assistance can provide an affordable option for households interested in home ownership. This information session and the City's Home Ownership program are aimed at helping people find an affordable way into the housing market," says Lanie Hurdle, Commissioner of Community Services. She notes that CMHC will be offering information on the financial requirements and responsibilities associated with home ownership which may benefit any prospective homeowner.

The Information Session is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 18 at the Isabel Turner Branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library, 935 Gardiners Rd.

Renters in Kingston or the County of Frontenac, who have a household income of less than $74,900 and would like to purchase a home with a maximum price of $260,000 may be eligible for down payment assistance equal to 5 per cent of the home purchase price up to $13,000.

Residents are encouraged to read the Home Ownership Program fact sheet for the complete list of rules and eligibility requirements as well as the application, which sets out the information and documentation required. Both are available at www.CityofKingston.ca/housing or at 362 Montreal St., second floor reception.

Applications for the Home Ownership Program will be accepted beginning Monday, March 3 until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 14.
