Learn about Walk 'n' Roll – the City's Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP)! Come see the draft active transportation options aimed at helping the City achieve the target of having 20 per cent of all trips be active ones by 2034.
Walk 'n' Roll Information Open Houses are planned for:
- 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9 at the INVISTA Centre, Room A/B , 1350 Gardiners Rd. Presentations will be made at 5 and 6:30 p.m.
- 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 14 in Portsmouth Olympic Harbour's Press Lounge, 53 Yonge St. Presentations will be made at 5 and 6:30 p.m.
"We want to invite everyone – and especially the more than 300 residents who offered input – to come see the draft plan built with the benefit of public input," says Ian Semple, director, transportation services. "Walk 'n' Roll will support and complement other City plans and strategies, all aimed at improving Kingston's sustainability by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting healthy living."
A broad range of public engagement activities have been held over the last 18 months to create this draft plan that will be the City's framework for increasing active travel choices for all residents within the city. It includes Kingston's vision, active transportation principles and goals and city-wide active transportation network of cycling and walking routes and facilities. The ATMP is much more than a physical plan with a network of routes and connections. It also includes outreach initiatives and strategies for encouraging active transportation. The plan further recognizes the need to develop neighbourhood level active transportation connections and facilities to be undertaken in the next phase of work.
The Walk 'n' Roll ATMP will work in concert with the City's Official Plan, Transportation Master Plan, Waterfront Master Plan and related initiatives, like Vision Zero, which is Kingston's Road Safety Plan.
