Livable City Design Award winners announced

The 2017 Livable City Design Awards, celebrating excellence in building project design, have been selected. The winning projects can be viewed at www.cityofkingston.ca/LivableCity .

The projects, completed between Jan. 1, 2014 and Dec. 31, 2016, were evaluated by a jury of professionals based on: significance to the City; significance to their community; innovation; context; execution; sustainable design; and accessibility. Conservation practices were also considered for heritage restoration projects.

The winners are:

Awards of Excellence

  • 42 Lakeshore Drive, residential development
  • Anna Lane, 121 Queen St.
  • Currie and Mackenzie Buildings, 15-17 Valour Dr.
  • Isabel Bader Centre for the Performing Arts, 390 King St. West
  • Molly Brant Elementary School, 30 Lyons St.
  • Tett Centre for Creativity and Learning, 370 King St. West

Awards of Merit

  • 7 Pine Street, residential development
  • Artillery Park Aquatic Centre, 382 Bagot St.
  • BPE Development Office, 141 Hickson Ave.
  • Kingston Community Health Centre, 263 Weller St.
  • Martello Alley, 203 B Wellington St.
  • Midland Park, 1391 Midland Ave.
  • Street Health Centre, 115 Barrack St.

People's Choice Award

  • Martello Alley, 203 B Wellington St.

The People's Choice Award was selected by Kingston residents through an online survey that was available on the City's website in October.
