null Look for new on-the-go recycling depots around Kingston
April 30, 2018 -
Whether you're at home or on-the-go, you can now recycle throughout the city as new recycling depots are now being installed around Kingston.
Similar to the depots that have been located in the downtown core for years, these new depots will be placed along high-traffic bus routes and in popular parks and splash pads this spring.
"We know Kingston residents are really smart about recycling at home, so we are excited to give people more opportunities to keep recycling while out-and-about," says Heather Roberts, director of solid waste. "Just like at home, our new recycling depots are separated for blue and grey box items."
Watch for the new recycling depots at some stops along Kingston Transit Express Routes. These depots offer transit riders a clean and convenient way to divert their recyclables from landfill during bus travel, so they don't throw these valuable resources in the garbage. The depots have separate compartments for waste items, blue and grey recyclables – along with pictures to help people choose the right compartment. The new depots are expected to reduce litter in these well-travelled areas.
Additional depots will be installed near selected splash pads in May and additional containers are on order to increase the contingent of depots in the downtown area.
