null Mayor encourages community to take Commuter Challenge
June 3, 2013 -
City strives to remain in first place
This week Kingstonians are encouraged to participate in the second annual Commuter Challenge! The Commuter Challenge is a week-long event encouraging active transportation across Canada, with local activities organized by the Kingston Coalition for Active Transportation. The challenge runs from June 2nd to June 8th.
The Commuter Challenge encourages individuals and workplaces across the nation to explore alternative and active transportation options, such as; walking, biking, carpooling and public transit. Participants in the challenge register online to track daily commute information and calculate their impact on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The collective efforts of Kingstonians, using active and alternative forms of transportation, will be ranked against cities in Canada at the end of the challenge. Last year, Kingston placed first for cities of our size, and this year we want to have even greater participation in the community!
Please join me on a bike ride to celebrate Kingston's participation in the Commuter Challenge! On Friday June 7th at 7:45 a.m. meet me at the Belle Park parking lot for a bike ride to Market Square. Upon our arrival at Market Square participants will enjoy a free ‘Roll-in Breakfast', provided by the Kingston Coalition for Active Transportation (KCAT).

See you Friday morning!
