Mayor encourages community to visit Parasport Games

May 29, 2013 -

This weekend Kingston welcomes hundreds of athletes and fans to our community for the 2013 Ontario ParaSport Games! Ontario's top athletes will converge on Kingston to participate in the multi-sport provincial championship for athletes with physical disabilities. The games run from May 31 to June 2.

The ParaSport Games will feature seven sports, including; Para-Athletics, Boccia, Wheelchair Basketball, ParaEquestrian, Goalball, Wheelchair Rugby, and Sledge Hockey. Events will take place across the City at St. Lawrence College, the Kingston Military Community Sports Centre, Dream Catcher Farm, Richardson Stadium, L.C.V.I., Q.E.C.V.I., the INVISTA Centre, and CaraCo Field.

This is the second time the City of Kingston has hosted the Ontario ParaSport Games - the City held the 2010 Ontario ParaSport Winter Games. This year, for the first time, the 2013 ParaSport Games combine the Ontario ParaSport Summer and Winter Games.

Bringing the games to our community was made possible thanks to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport, Sport Alliance Ontario, ParaSport Ontario, the City of Kingston, Tourism Kingston, and the local Games Organizing Committee. Thank you to all who have played a role and especially to the volunteers, without them events like this would not be possible.

Wishing you a safe, fun and happy weekend.
