Mayor to bring council priorities to association of municipalities conference

August 13, 2015 -

Mayor Bryan Paterson will join more than 1,600 municipal leaders and delegates at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario's (AMO) 2015 Conference in Niagara Falls from August 16 to 19.

"This is a great chance to engage the province in advancing our strategic priorities," said Mayor Bryan Paterson. "I will be sharing our priorities and asking for partnership on these key initiatives including infrastructure projects like the Third Crossing and the airport expansion, the need for continued investment in affordable housing and collaboration on economic development in our region."

The annual conference is a chance for municipal officials to work together to address shared challenges and opportunities. In addition to the conference program, the Mayor will take part in a number of meetings with provincial and federal ministries. This year the City has confirmed delegations with:

  • Minister of Energy
  • Minister of Transportation
  • Leader of the Provincial New Democratic Party • Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure
  • Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing

As Chair of the Eastern Ontario Mayors Committee (EOMC), Mayor Paterson will be participating in meetings with provincial leaders to advocate for important regional priorities in Eastern Ontario.

The AMO conference is Ontario's largest municipal conference bringing together municipal and provincial leaders to explore municipal challenges and work collectively for the future. Ontario's Premier, the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing and both opposition leaders are all featured speakers.

About AMO

AMO is a non-profit organization representing almost all of Ontario's 444 municipal governments. AMO supports strong and effective municipal government in Ontario and promotes the value of municipal government as a vital and essential component of Ontario and Canada's political system.
