null Mayor welcomes Laser North American Championship To Kingston
July 24, 2013 -
Sailors from across North America will be converging on Kingston this weekend to compete in the 2013 Laser North American Championship. The five-day competition, which wraps up on Sunday, is expected to attract 250 boats to Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, and hundreds of visitors to our community.
"Kingston is excited to welcome this major sporting event to our community this weekend," said Mayor Mark Gerretsen. "Hosting the 2013 Laser North American speaks not only to the attractiveness of Kingston as a host community, but also to the ability, commitment and dedication of CORK/Sail Kingston as a world-class organizer."
Kingston has proven to be one of the most popular and hospitable places to sail and has earned the reputation as the Fresh Water Sailing Capital of the World. With this reputation, sailing has become part of our city's cultural heritage, having hosted many notable events including the 1976 Olympic sailing events.
