Meet OSKAR - the mobile waste diversion station

August 14, 2017 -

Watch for "OSKAR," the On Site Kingston Area Recycler, at an upcoming event – that's the name picked for the City of Kingston's new mobile waste diversion station.

Although the generic names suggested by the City got a lot of votes, we chose one of the unique names suggested by several members of the public.  Not to be mistaken for the angry character living in a garbage can on a beloved children show, this OSKAR is serious about collecting recyclables and organics generated at events.  This guy does not want any garbage!

"We asked you to suggest names and, boy, did we get them!  Getting them was so much fun. It was so heart-warming to see how excited everyone is to be involved with this waste-diversion piece of equipment.  I couldn't go anywhere the last two weeks without someone asking me what the name will be, or suggesting a name to me.  It was awesome," says Heather Roberts, manager of solid waste.

The naming of the waste diversion station follows a one week poll which attracted 756 participants with many more offering suggestions on social media.

Here are just some of the creative names you suggested: Derek2, Wastey McWaste Face, Trashy McTrashy Trailer, Green Monster, Oscar, Greenie McGreenface, Kelly the litter saver, Recycly Jabour!!!,  Recycley McRecyclface, Green Face McMachine Face, Super Green Munchin Machine, The Green Machine (this one is owned by TD Bank), Mr. Green Waste Bin,  Phil-up, Wheelie Waste-Mobile (WWM), Compost McCompost Face, Garbage McGarbageface and Donald.

Use OSKAR to recycle or compost at City events. He can be requested (subject to availability) by contacting customer service at 613-546-0000. Other ways to book OKSAR will be available by spring 2018.
