April 10, 2017 -
The municipal accessibility advisory committee (MAAC) is seeking three new members to help advise council on accessibility issues and matters of interest to people with disabilities.
Interested in serving your city, know about the Ontarians with Disabilities Act and have expertise or interest in this area? Apply by 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18. Find full details and a link to the online application form at: www.CityofKingston.ca/Committees.
Please note that the Ontarians with Disabilities Act requires that a majority of MAAC – made up of 15 public members and one councillor – be individuals with disabilities. Specific needs can be accommodated at MAAC meetings which are 1 p.m. on the first Thursday of every month at Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, 53 Yonge St.
To help council meet its obligation to have regard to the accessibility for persons with disabilities MAAC offers advice on:
- the preparation, implementation and effectiveness of its annual Accessibility Plan;
- site plans and drawings as described in Section 41 of the Planning Act;
- the accessibility for persons with disabilities to a building, structure or premise;
- the City's purchase of goods or services
MAAC also consults with and advises staff and council regarding accessibility issues as requested.
