Kingston's Mayor Mark Gerretsen is calling for Nominations for the 2013 Mayor's Awards for Youth Volunteerism and the 2013 First Capital Distinguished Citizen/Honourable Achievement Awards. These awards will be celebrated at the City of Kingston's Canada Day ceremony on the steps of City Hall on July 1.
"Kingston benefits enormously from the efforts of committed volunteers," says Mayor Mark Gerretsen. "These awards are an opportunity to celebrate the wonderful citizens and youth who contribute considerable time and great energy toward improving our community."
The awards honour individuals who have made a significant contribution in our community through volunteerism. The Mayor's Awards for Youth Volunteerism recognize individuals, while the First Capital Distinguished Citizen/Honourable Achievement Awards are open for applicants of all ages.
Mayor's Award For Youth Volunteerism
Now in its 15th year, The Mayor's Award for Youth Volunteerism recognizes individuals up to age 24 who demonstrate one or more of the following attributes (amongst others):
- Leadership qualities, challenging themselves and others.
- Care and compassion for members of the community, particularly those with special needs.
- Ability to overcome personal challenges in donating their time to volunteer and assist others.
- Motivating others to achieve and strive for goals.
- Willingness to mentor fellow youth and others.
- Special skills and personally contributes to improving quality of life in the Kingston community.
First Capital Distinguished Citizen/Honourable Achievement
The 2013 First Capital Distinguished Citizen/Honourable Achievement Awards recognize volunteers of all ages for community contributions in the area of: Culture, Heritage, Recreation, Sports, Health, Education, Health Care, Environment, Safety, Volunteering or Business.
Nominations are due March 30, 2013 by 4:30 p.m. Application forms will be available as of March 1, 2013 and can be found at at the bottom of this page and in person at the City Hall reception desk.
