Nominate an outstanding Kingstonian for a 2018 Civic Award
March 28, 2018 -
The City is now seeking nominees for its annual Civic Awards, which recognize the significant community contributions of outstanding Kingstonians.
"Presenting these awards is one of the highlights of my year – and there is never a shortage of worthy nominees," says Mayor Bryan Paterson. "The efforts and enthusiasm of all those who are nominated help make Kingston the vibrant, caring community it is."
Nominees are being sought for the Civic Award for Youth Volunteerism, First Capital Distinguished Citizen and Honourable Achievement awards that are presented at the Canada Day Civic Ceremony (see details below).
The Civic Award for Youth Volunteerism will again be offered as a bursary program in partnership with the United Way of KFL&A, using some of the proceeds from the 2017 Kingston Penitentiary tours.
Youth Award recipients will receive a bursary as outlined below:
- Grades 5-8 – $750 to be used toward a school project of their choice or design
- Grades 9-12 – $1,500
- Post-secondary youth (up to age 24) – $2,000
The bursary monies are intended to support youth award winners in their academic endeavours for the Grade 9-12 and post-secondary categories. The Grade 5-8 bursary supports a project of the winners choosing or design through their school.
