A public meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 at 6:30 p.m.
in the Press Lounge, Portsmouth Olympic Harbour, 53 Yonge St.
Addresses of properties: 1030 Sunnyside Rd., 303 York St., 1350 Gardiners Rd., 100 Days Rd. and 53 Yonge St.

Purpose and effect of the proposed amendment: To permit trade shows and specific day retail sales as an accessory use at municipally-owned arenas. Further, this amendment is to permit trade shows, exhibition events and ancillary sales as an accessory use at the Portsmouth Olympic Harbour.

Background: The use of arenas for trade shows, sales events and uses that are not clearly ancillary to a recreational building or auditorium are not addressed in the zoning bylaws. This creates uncertainty in the existing bylaws for the types of uses can be considered ancillary to a recreational facility or auditorium such as an arena. The amendments to the zoning bylaws will create a new site-specific zone for each of the five properties.

Written comments for or against these changes may be sent to the Planning Division by mail, fax or email using the contact information above.
Anyone may attend the public meeting and make a verbal statement, and/or submit comments in writing, either in support of or in opposition to the proposed zoning bylaw amendments. The planning committee will receive a preliminary information report with respect to the proposed amendments at the public meeting, which will be available to the public on the City of Kingston's website at www.CityofKingston.ca/PlanningCommittee on Oct. 27, 2017. A comprehensive report will be presented at a future meeting of the planning committee, at which time a recommendation will be made to council regarding the amendments.
Please note that City council has delegated to the planning committee the authority to hold the public meeting instead of council. All representations, both verbal and written, will be considered only by the planning committee, which will submit a committee report with its recommendations to council for a decision on the matter.
