Notice of Commencement - Municipal Class Environmental Assessment

May 21, 2013 -

Municipal Class Environmental Assessment - Schedule B
Cataraqui Creek Bridge And Collins Creek Bridge

The City of Kingston is evaluating alternative repair strategies for the Cataraqui Creek Bridge, located on Front Road (1.7km east of Days Road), and Collins Creek Bridge, located on Taylor Kidd Boulevard (0.1km west of Collins Bay Road). The project is being planned under Schedule B of the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment Process.

Structural and durability deficiencies have been noted at both bridges and the City is investigating rehabilitation. Detailed investigations of each bridge are underway and the results will determine appropriate methods of repair. This project is intended to confirm the City's decision for rehabilitation as well as the opportunity of including cycling and pedestrian facilities in the rehabilitation design for each bridge. Project alternatives being considered include do nothing, bridge replacement and bridge rehabilitation with or without cycling and pedestrian facilities.

Public input and comment are invited, for incorporation into the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment process and the determination of a preferred alternative. Subject to comments received and the receipt of necessary approvals, the City of Kingston intends to finalize the detailed design for each bridge this summer in advance of rehabilitation in 2014.

Any comments/suggestions that are to be considered as part of this process must be identified prior to June 14, 2013.

For further information on this project please contact one of the project team members noted below.
