null Notice of study commencement and open house - Walk 'n' Roll Kingston
October 25, 2016 -
The City of Kingston has initiated an Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP) to address the active transportation needs of the community for modes of transportation including walking, cycling, other non-motorized modes of travel and moving with mobility devices. The purpose of the ATMP – to be known as the Walk ‘n' Roll Kingston plan – is to develop a comprehensive active transportation network supported by policies, program and facilities designed to increase active travel options and improve accessibility in Kingston.
The project is being completed in accordance with the requirements of Phases 1 and 2 of the Municipal Engineers Association Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (October 2000, as amended 2007, 2011 and 2015), which is an approved process under the Environmental Assessment Act. The master plan process will satisfy Phases 1 (Identify Problem and Opportunity) and 2 (Identify and Evaluate Alternative Solutions to the Problem and Opportunity) of the Municipal Class EA process.
A key component of the study will be consultation with stakeholders, regulatory agencies and the public. Anyone with an interest in this study has the opportunity to get involved and provide input. Public and stakeholder consultation is important to ensure that comments and concerns are identified, documented and assessed. As the study progresses, project information and engagement details will be promoted at www.CityofKingston.ca/WalkRoll.
Two public open houses will be held during the study to present findings and receive public input. The first open house and workshop will be held in November of 2016 to identify the study purpose, vision and options for the development of a complete active transportation network, as well as the approach to encourage walking and cycling. The second open house will be held in the Spring of 2017. Alternative strategies and solutions will be presented at that time, along with the draft network plan. Input into the phasing, implementation and recommendations will also be sought.
