Notice - Request for Noise Exemptions

Westbrook Road Underpass

The Ministry of Transportation has applied for an exemption to the Noise Control Bylaw for the purpose of permitting construction activities for median shoulder widening on Highway 401 at the Westbrook Road Underpass, between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. The applicant has requested the exemption to cover paving operations between Monday and Friday and not on any Statutory Holiday for a maximum of 14 days from April 1, 2015 to November 30, 2017.

The applicant has also requested an exemption to permit soffit and pier repair at the same location between the hours of 7 p.m. and 7 a.m., Monday to Friday and not on any Statutory Holiday for a maximum of 20 days from April 1, 2015 to November 30, 2017.

The current bylaw only permits this activity from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and excludes Sundays and Statutory Holidays.

St. Lawrence College Sports Fields

St. Lawrence College has made application to Noise Control Bylaw 2004-52 Schedule "A" Section 7 to permit noise from whistles at their sports fields located at the corner of King Street West and Portsmouth Avenue between the hours of 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday to Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays. In addition, St. Lawrence College is requesting the exemption until 10 p.m. for a total of 25 occurrences in a calendar year.

The current bylaw prohibits the use of whistles at this location at all times.
