Park Refreshment Vehicle Policy Survey

July 2, 2013 -

View the Draft Policy and provide comment by August 23.

The City is presenting its Park Refreshment Vehicle Policy for feedback at a public meeting set for 7 p.m. on Monday, July 15 in Memorial Hall, City Hall 216 Ontario St.

The Policy promotes and gives priority to food vendors who provide diverse, healthy and local food options, use sustainable business practices and follow accessibility standards.

"The City wants to enable easier access to healthy and sustainable food sources in more of our active public play spaces," says Lanie Hurdle, Commissioner of Community Services.  She notes that improving access to healthy – and local – food choices addresses Food and Nutrition goals outlined in the community-built Sustainable Kingston Plan.

Food vendors in particular are being encouraged to come out to the meeting to learn about the process associated with the Policy which will award annual and monthly permits allowing refreshment vehicles to operate in Kingston parks.

The City is a partner to the Sustainable Kingston Plan: www.SustainableKingston.ca
