Partial burn ban remains in effect Kingston Fire & Rescue reminds residents

August 03, 2018 -

Kingston Fire & Rescue reminds residents a partial ban on open air burning remains in effect and they are reminded that they cannot burn brush or set off fireworks until the ban is lifted.

There has not been enough recent rainfall to allow the removal of the partial ban which applies to all properties within Kingston until further notice. Violators face potential fines of up to $50,000 and may also be liable for fire suppression costs.

Residents may have a small, controlled fire no more than 45 cm wide by 45 cm high, that is used to provide warmth or cooking food, recreationally, and for religious or ceremonial purposes.

Kingston Fire & Rescue would also like to remind citizens of the following:

  • Remove all vegetation and other material that could spread the fire.
  • Never leave a fire unattended.
  • Keep your fire on a non-combustible surface and away from structures.
  • Have an adequate supply of water available to extinguish or control the fire.
  • Pay attention to wind conditions, smoke and potential spark hazards.
  • To be cautious when disposing of smoking materials.

Kingston Fire & Rescue will monitor weather conditions and fire-risk change and continue to update the status of this open air burn ban.

Watch for burn ban updates and find guidelines for open air burning at www.CityofKingston.ca/residents/emergency-services/kingston-fire-rescue/open-air-burning.

Residents may also call 613-548-4001, ext. 0 to determine the status of the burn ban.
